Into the Wrestling Vault: Edge vs Mick Foley (Hardcore Match/ Wrestlemania 22)

Both Johnny C and I have made our hatred and dismay over the Linda McMahon induced PG-Era and overall state of wrestling well known. We firmly believe that wrestling was far better in the 90's and early 2000's. In fact, even the mid 2000's are much better than the horseshit that is shoved down our throats these days. Consequently, it's no surprise that I have burned countless number of hours looking up old matches, and promos on Youtube, Daily Motion, and the dozens of other websites which host wrestling videos. Now that I have turned myself into a fancy man (with my own blog) I figured to turn all those wasted hours into blog posts. So join me as I delve into the Wrestling Vault to relive my favorite videos.

I'm taking a break from Shawn Michaels matches (again) because I wanted to post match I just rewatched (On my Edge: A Decade of Decadence DVD) yesterday. Those of you who haven't recognized it from the picture, it's Edge w Lita vs Mick Foley in a Hardcore Match. There are so many things I love about this match, it was booked smartly, told a great story, had great spots, and even satisfied my bloodlust. Moreover, it was a true HARDCORE match, which is a rarity in the WWE. Sure, Edge used cookie sheets, but they had barbed wire and flaming tables. Plus, Foley even went knee first into the steel steps something very few wrestlers do anymore. I understand why they don't do it, but its still fun (in a very violent way) to see someone not take a choreographed stair bump. When I first watched the match, I knew we were going to be in for a treat when Foley revealed that he had barbed wire wrapped around him, and even the Chicago crowd (Wrestlemania 22 had one of my favorite crowds) was appreciative of that little moment. All in all, I thought this match stole the show at Wrestlemania, it proved that Edge belonged in the main event scene, and gave Foley the Wrestlemania classic.
